When I do re-enacting, I sometimes wear the chaps I got from my grandfather which he used on his cutting horse back in the '50s. They are batwing style. One of my club members tells me that batwings didn't come about until the turn of the century, that in the 1880's they'd be shotgun style. Oh well. Yes, it seems to be true that they used more of a "legging" type . That is very interesting, to have your Grandfathers chaps! Wes has a couple sets of spurs that were his Dad's...ever wonder what stories they could tell if they could talk... | |
